A certificate course being offered from Google on Google Analytics
Why Google Analytics?
Google analytics enables businesses understand how to measure and improve their online business. With Google Analytics, you can collect and analyze data across a variety of devices and digital environments. Generally, we analyze data for our website and mobile applications but we can get analytics for other devices as well such as game consoles, ticket kiosks and even appliances.
We are covering a brief summary of the course below for the people interested in taking up the course.
Components of Google Analytics
The course 2 (we can put the course 2 link here) focusses on a deeper understanding of Google Analytics, how it measures and reports detailing different components of the platform and how they all work together and how the data gets from the tracking code into your reports. The four components of the platform are Collection, Processing, Configuration and Reporting.
- The first segment is Collection, where the data is collected and send to the google server in the form of HITS for the website and in BATCHES of HITS for the mobile app and to do this you need a tracking code for your website or the device for which you want analytics report.
- The next segment is Processing & Configuration, where the received data is aggregated and modified according to the configured setting in your account. Finally, at the end of processing stage we get aggregated tables with all required and useful data. Apart from the received data one can also filter and include external data as well.
- Now comes the final stage know as Reporting, where we see reports for the data we have channeled through the above segments. Using the Google Analytics API you can also build your own reporting tools or extract your data directly into third-party reporting tools.
Data Model
The unit of Data Model shares some very interesting metrics of users, sessions and interactions. A user is a visitor to your website or app, a session is the time they spend there, and an interaction is what they do while they’re there. Each individual interaction on a website or an app pulls out the analytics, which are useful for a business.
Data Collection Overview
In this unit it is explained how the tracking code collects information about a user’s activity which is packaged up and sent to the Analytics servers via an image request. There are different tracking codes which fits into the program code written for your website or for mobile app to track user activity which identifies new users and returning users.
To track data from the website google analytics provides a standard snippets JavaScript tracking code which needs to be placed in the all the pages of the website to track data accordingly. And to track data for a mobile app use an SDK, or Software Development Kit, to collect data from your mobile app. There are different SDKs for different operating systems, including Android and iOS.
Some of our team members also did the course and we also got the certificates from Google Analytics team. Happy learning to those who plan to take this course.
