ASEAN-INDIA-HACKATHON-2021_case_study

ASEAN INDIA HACKATHON 2021

The ASEAN-India Hackathon was organised by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs from 1-4 February 2021. The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) implemented this important initiative with the support of nodal agencies from all ten ASEAN countries, which included their Education Ministries and prominent universities. The Hackathon emanates from Prime Ministers’ announcement at the 16th ASEAN-India Summit in Bangkok in November 2019. The Hackathon was inaugurated by Minister of Education Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ along with other dignitaries from ASEAN and India.

SMART INDIA HACKATHON 2020 (Online edition)

The world’s largest open innovation model was organized from August 1 to August 3 2020. Smart India Hackathon is a nationwide initiative to provide students with a platform to solve some of the pressing problems we face in our daily lives, and thus inculcate a culture of product innovation and a mindset of problem-solving. The first three editions SIH2017, SIH2018 and SIH2019 proved to be extremely successful in promoting out-of-the-box thinking in young minds, especially engineering students from across India.

However, SIH 2020 had hit a wall because of the COVID-19 situation. Which is where the experience of the InnovatioCuris (IC) team was handy. IC had already conducted two large hackathons, Ideathon and Samadhan for COVID-19 solutions and had a deep understanding of the processes involved in a virtual event.

TCGA 2020

Recently, TCGA received the prestigious 2020 American Association of Cancer Research (AACR) ‘Team  Science Award.’ Meanwhile, the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), GoI has initiated ‘GenomeIndia Project’  aimed at sequencing 10,000 healthy individuals. India is already a partner in the International Cancer  Genome Consortium (ICGC), with a special focus on gingivo-buccal cancer.
Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), GoI has expressed commitment towards establishing  Cancer Consortia to generate genomics data on Indian cancer patients. More such initiatives/projects are expected to be rolled out in the coming years from various Governmental and non-Governmental agencies.  These positive developments make it imperative that a collaborative structure is needed in India to help share big data for performing meta-analyses on the lines of TCGA.
Therefore, based on the consensus between the attendees of the TCGA 2019 conference, the establishment of an ‘Indian Cancer Genomics Atlas (ICGA)’ has been proposed. The 2nd TCGA-themed conference, in collaboration with TCGA and key ICGA stakeholders, deliberates on the vision, design, and plans of the ICGA  project with regards to common SOPs, operations, logistics, and governance models.
InnovatioCuris provided the end-to-end technology support for conducting the 2nd TCGA conference virtually.
