And it’s happened once again!

Another inexplicable video and song going viral… The next Kolaveri di… The current rage among musicians, politicians, cricketers and the net-surfing crowd. Yes, “Oppan Gangnam Style”.

10 years back, when Park Jae-Sang (better known to the world as PSY) released his first album, PSY from the PSYcho World!, he was met with criticism and branded ‘The Bizarre Singer’. Who could have known that one day this man’s song, with over 590 milliom views on YouTube, will make its place in the Guiness World Records for being the most “liked” video in YouTube history.

The critical question running in many minds though, is not about PSY’s sheer brilliance, or his record-breaking abilities in the musical world. No. The big question is: WHAT DOES IT TAKE FOR SOMETHING TO BECOME VIRAL THESE DAYS?? Or phrased another way, can just about ANYTHING become viral these days?

Is it the catchy music of Gangnam Style? Or the meaningful lyrics? Here’s a flash of the English translation:

I love a lady who is warm and compassionate by day,
A classy girl who know how to enjoy the freedom of a cup of coffee
A girl whose heart gets hotter when night comes
A girl with that kind of twist

What is it that has Google founder Eric Schmidt dancing to the tunes of this song? What made UN Secretary-General Ban-Ki-moon declare this song as a “force for world peace.” A few million net-surfers with a lot of free time on their hands- imaginable. World leaders and business icons doing the famous “invisible horse-trot” and you begin to wonder- what is the world coming to?
